As part of a group exhibition in 'Paint, Paper, Plywood', I began working on these semi-3D collection of paintings on wood. Each shape is drawn, cut by hand from plywood, and carefully sanded and painted in bold palettes. This series was inspired by souvenirs and memories of several trips to Japan; studying and holidaying, collecting visual references, colour palettes, interesting artefacts and filling sketchbooks along the way. All complete with the nostalgic, rosy tinge of memory.
